Residence: Minneapolis, MN

Statement from the candidate:
I believe in representational democracy; that the best interests of the voters must be the final determining factor in how our legislators chose to perform their duties. Unfortunately, in the quest for power and political leverage, the election process has devolved into a bitter game of division; pitting poor against rich, black against white, and neighbor against neighbor, all in the quest for greater control. We have let the political party machinery manipulate and use us for the selfish interest of those in power, and I seek to change that; returning the power back to the people. I believe in voting for the person, not the party, and I believe in representing the people, not the political machine. I do cherish the good hearts of those citizens who support a political party as a way of involving themselves in the betterment of their communities. I myself am running on a major party ticket. But what I ask of you is to look first to the person when it comes time for you to vote; for as your representative, I will also look first to the people when it comes my turn to vote on the floor of the Legislature, and not to the bitter political games of manipulation that have so long divided us to the benefit of those in power. I will serve you first. That is my pledge to you, and I humbly ask for your support in returning power back to the people. That is why we need change in this district. That is why I'm asking for your vote. Thank You.

Biography:
Tom Gromacki is a long time community activist dedicated to volunteer efforts to help his fellow citizen. During college, while studying Political Science at the University of Minnesota, he involved himself in a number of service oriented organizations in which he quickly rose to positions of leadership. Whether it was serving on local governance committees, volunteering to clean up the river, or participating in his church, Tom Gromacki has always had a heart for helping people. Although Tom Gromacki has a long history of political activism, he recognizes the difference between politics and public service. Tom Gromacki ran a campaign against Representative Phyllis Kahn in 1996 before moving to a new district. Today he is a licensed Insurance Agent and Adjuster, as well as an active member of his community. Those that support Tom Gromacki in this year's race have come across party lines; Republican, Democratic, and Independent backgrounds, to recognize the need for Tom Gromacki's leadership in government. As one supporter puts it, "I might be a Democrat, I might be a Republican, but I'm definitely "Wacky for Gromacki!"
