Sandra Peterson
Sandra Peterson
District: 45A
Party: DFL
Residence: New Hope, MN
Web site: www.sandrapeterson.org

Statement from the campaign:
Sandra Peterson is running for the state Legislature because she feels that the state is headed in the wrong direction by not investing in its future and is frustrated by the lack of action in the last legislative session. She feels passionately that our state needs to fully fund education to make sure our children have the means necessary to succeed. She also believes the state needs to work harder to make sure that everyone has access to affordable, dependable health care and good jobs with good wages. It is mandatory that the state continues to work on a transportation system that makes sense for our state's growing metro area. When elected, Sandra will work tirelessly to make sure that her priorities are on the legislative agenda next session.

Biography:
Sandra Peterson taught in the Robbinsdale school district for 17 years. Afterwards, she served as as vice president of Education Minnesota. Elected as president of the Minnesota Federation of Teachers in 1987, she helped shape the merger with the Minnesota Education Association that led to the creation of Education Minnesota. This merger between AFT and NEA in 1998 was the first in the nation, and structured an organization dedicated to excellence in education. Peterson has demonstrated her commitment to excellence throughout her career and has held leadership positions in the American Federation of Teachers and the Minnesota AFL-CIO. She has also been appointed to serve on the Governor's Workforce Development Council and the Job Skills Partnership Board of Directors.
