Statement from the candidate:
have wish to help end the present Minnesota government's injustice of balancing the budget on the backs of the poor, disabled, elderly and children. I will immediately work for the restoration of cuts to cities, counties, and state health and welfare programs. Introduce legislation for a health plan for all Minnesotans. Legislate for full funding of of K-12 education from the states general fund, without using any property tax. Fund scholarships to Minnesota state colleges for students who earn a B+ average in high school. Also scholarships at a decreasing level for lower averages of students that still qualify for a state college. 60% being the minimum scholarship.I would have the minimum wage in Minnesota raised to $8.00 per hour. I would raise the gas tax and change the MN Constitution to allow for a percentage of the tax to go to mass transit. This includes subsidies for intercity mass transit throughout the state. I will strongly support enviormental legislation with mercury pollution as an immediate emphasis. I will seek reperations for the Native Americans and Afreican Americans of Minnesota.I would seek an equal rights amendments for the Minnesoata Constitution. One for women. The other recognizing the eaual rights for same sex couples to marry and have all the rights of married couples Finally I would make the state income tax more progressive with the top 15% of income earners providing additional funds to budget. Peace to you, Roger Westall
